Родился в Нью-Йорке 3 июня 1948 г. Его отец и брат провели несколько лет в известной американской тюрьме Синг-Синг, но Дуглас решил нарушить традицию, и вместо этого поступил в университет на факультет психологии (наверное, хотел выяснить, что ему делать с такой непростой наследственностью). Окончил с отличием, стал известным специалистом в области социальной психологии, ведет блог для журнала "Психология сегодня" и занимается научными исследованиями.
